So, another HOT weekend

This was a fun weekend but HOT HOT HOT!!  I know, I know, we're having a heat wave and most of the East Coast was sweating but man, it was hot!

Friday night was a family friendly dinner with my friend T and her children.  We went to a Japanese steak house that was participating in Charlotte Restaurant week.  The Chef did not speak English, he spoke "American".  :)  After dinner we had a rousing game of Farkle.

So, Saturday morning I got up and went to Hot Yoga.  I think it was actually cooler outside than it was in the studio.  It was a great class!!  Sweating and stretching, reaching the edge and trying to push past it.   After class, I had to run an errand and since I was in the neighborhood, I stopped at The Fresh Market.  Picked up some salmon and shrimps.

Saturday evening was dinner at one of my favorite Mexican restaurants - Cantina 1511.  I had one of my usuals - Enchilada Suiza and a margarita.  I went to dinner with one of my dearest friends for her birthday.  After dinner we went to Actors' Theatre for the Rocky Horror Musical.  IT WAS GREAT!!!  Nice interpretation of the musical into a stage setting.  Frank N Furter was a sweet 6' tall black transvestite.  I envied the thigh high patent leather stiletto boots.

Sunday night I had an impromptu dinner party with two girlfriends.  S who is divorced and J who is in limbo (not divorced yet).  We grilled the seafood, steamed some rice, had a nice green salad and some Watermelon Slushies.  The slushies were great.  I also opened a bottle of Moshin Sauvignon Blanc.

What a wonderful weekend!

The Rest of the Story...

OK - so after the fun of passing a kidney stone in three hours, I saw my Primary Care on Tuesday.  He wanted to make sure that I didn't still have a kidney stone so I got the joy of a CT Scan on Wednesday morning.  The scan itself takes no time and is not invasive.  They had the results of the scan to my Doc on Wednesday afternoon.  I got the call on Thursday - no kidney stone.  There are however uterine fibroid and an ovarian cyst.  Oh well.  Such is life.  We are taking a "wait and see" approach to the news since there were no symptoms and both are extremely common.

Then on Friday, I managed to hit myself in the face with a table and give myself a nasty scratch on my chin.

Let's hope that was the last kidney stone ever!!!!

So, I am generally a healthy person (according to my Dr. except for that little weight issue) so yesterday morning was sort of a complete shock to the system.  I woke up as usual, got dressed and took Winston for a walk.  Made my coffee and then got the twinges of an UTI - you know the "hurry, hurry, oh never mind?"  But within the next hour, I was having cramps and back pain.  Cramps that brought tears to my eyes.  Those of you who have known me for awhile may remember that I have a high tolerance for pain so for something to bring tears to my eyes!!!

After checking WebMD, to confirm my suspicions, I drove myself to the Urgent Care center.  While waiting in the lobby and thinking I would pass out, I got to watch the horrors of the Serengeti.  Didn't make me feel better.  Finally got to see the Doctor who said, I think you have a kidney infection or appendicitis? but since we have an urine sample, we shall see.  Told him I hadn't peed in a cup yet although I told the receptionist that I thought I had an UTI.   That was quickly remedied and I have to tell you having the nurse ask if I was on my period because there was a "lot of blood" in my urine, did not make me feel warm and fuzzy.

After the Dr. told me that I wasn't pregnant (not a surprise) and that there was blood in my urine (knew that already) and he suspected that I had a kidney stone, he then wrote my two scripts and wants a CAT scan if my situation worsens.  I thanked him and said I would call my Primary Care for follow up.  Now, I am grateful for the Urgent Care and glad I did not have to go to the Emergency Room, but I did not appreciate the Dr. questioning my being allergic to Naproxen and being on a Vitamin D supplement.   He said I should to talk to an Allergist about my supposed allergy and then prescribed that I take 2 Alleve daily (contains Naproxen!)

May I say that the pain of passing a kidney stone was excruciating and I am glad that as an overachiever, I seemed to take care of the whole process in three hours.  I was exhausted!

And this was after waking up Friday morning and looking like I had had a bad collagen session!!  My upper lip was swollen for goodness knows why and did not go down for more than 24 hours!

Had a fun weekend but now I need a nap....

So, my good friends had their 2nd Annual Fry Anything and Pool Party.  I was in the pool for h-o-u-r-s with the kids.  I had a blast but was exhausted when the day was done.  That and the margaritas flowed freely or as often as I could get one the the dry parents to get me one.  :)

I got up early on Sunday morning because the dog wanted to got outside.  I put on my workout clothes to walk the dog and then went to a 9 AM Hot Yoga class.  For my yoga friends, my accomplishment grabbing my ankles in Bridge http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/472 and then pushing up into Wheel http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/473.  It has been quite awhile for me to push up into Wheel (backbend) and it has been five years for me to reach my ankles while in Bridge.

So, yesterday was very relaxing.  I met two of my friends at a funky yarn shop in NoDa then we went back to my friend's house to float in the pool.  It was a very changed atmosphere from the previous day.  It ended up being a girls only swim.  I made guacamole and burgers on the grill.  Yum and yum!!

So, my guac recipe:

2 avocados
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon cumin
jalapeno (to taste)
1/2 cup seeded and chopped tomato

Add avocado and salt to bowl.  Roughly mash the avocado with the salt  Add the other ingredients and mix.  Jalapeno and cumin to taste.

Beautiful Day in the Queen City

So, winter gave us a taste of Spring today. We hit the 70s today only to go downhill the rest of the week. Tomorrow's high is forecast to be 45! Oh well, back to winter.

Winston and I visited the dog park today. We spent some time in the small dog side, he was the big dog there! Then we went to the big dog side. I bent down to tie my shoe and got a big wet sloppy kiss on the ear by one of the lab puppies. Winston just ran off from me to meet all the other cool dogs.

Went to see The Black Swan today. Man - physcho thriller indeed. I won't give away the plot but WOW!

Last night was a fabulous dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, Fiamma's. It is this small, intimate Italian place that ROCKS!! I had my favorite Fritta Misto (lightly fried calamari, shirmp and vegetables with a chunky marinara), the a perfectly cooked sea bass with spinach followed by a chocolate torte. Yummy! They also brought complimentary lemoncello's at the end of the meal.

Will need to study tonight for class this week.

Hope eveyone it well! Blog with you soon.

Happy New Year

Yeah, yeah. So I've been a little busy! Since I do not have enough to do in my life, I have gone back to school for my MBA. So far, only taking a class at a time but I am really enjoying myself.

The Holidays were fun! And busy! We had snow on Christmas day even though it won't go into the record books. Evidently, snow had to be on the ground at 7:30 AM!!! to be counted. The snow started around 7 PM and blanketed everything in white. It was so pretty and quiet.

Then we had snow and ice in January. (Yes, January is not over but no more snow for the month!) The ice sucks!!! We had a couple of inches of ice on the roads and sidewalks for a few days. Winston did not like slip-sliding across the front stoop - he barked that he is a dancer not ice skater! We referred to the production that he left us as poopsicles.

Ta ta for now!

Well, I should go study....

Hey - I still have a blog!

Yeah, yeah, I know. Long time no blog so what have I been up to??

Well, this has been the summer of concerts. Let's see if I can name (most of) them:

Chicago and The Doobie Brothers
Earth, Wind & Fire
The Goo Goo Dolls
Bare Naked Ladies
Heart
Melissa Etheridge
Dave Matthews Band
Tim McGraw
Carnival of Madness
Toby Keith with Trace Adkins

And tomorrow is Brad Paisley with Darius Rucker and then Saturday night is Kiss. I know I have forgotten some along the way. Also, attended many Sunday nights at Pops in the Park with different friends, old and new. Oh, and Tom Petty with ZZ Top in September!

My neighbor had a big party for turning 40 to kick off the Summer Party Season. Not to be outdone, my niece had to go and graduate from High School! Jacksonville sure it humid at the beginning of the Summer.

Then another friend had a "Fry Anything" Party to celebrate his 40th. Fried twinkies, mac & cheese, Snickers, Chicken, Oreos, a few other items. Combined with the pool, it was a fun party! We are celebrating his wife's birthday by attending Oktoberfest 9/25.

Oh, and last night, a knitting circle at my house!

I promise to get back in the Blog Habit.

Love you all!
